GOD’S POWER IN ME

Posted on

Since the beginning of time God, by His mighty power, has wrought some pretty spectacular things. He created the heavens and the earth. He formed, made and created man. Twice He made bodies of water part so the children of Israel could pass through on dry ground. He made the sun to stand still. By God’s power, three men in a fiery furnace were not harmed.

New Testament accounts reveal how the blind were made to see, the dead were raised up, the lame and crippled were made to walk, the sick were made well and the storm at sea was calmed by a word. In modern times cancers have been healed instantly, dead have been brought back to life and people have been averted from impending tragic situations. These are great and mighty acts of an almighty and all-powerful God. We are thankful and praise God that He cares enough about us that He will perform such acts.

That same God with that same power is in action every minute of every day in the life of every believer. Sometimes we fail to see it because we are looking for the explosive acts that “tickle” our senses. Sometimes it seems as though we are looking for the spectacular in our daily living to excite us. We carry this over into our spiritual lives. We do not need the spectacular and the phenomenal to excite us if we remember who God is, and if we remember who we are as sons of God filled with holy spirit power.

God, the giver, who is Holy Spirit, has given us the gift of holy spirit – and we have become His children by the new birth, with Christ dwelling in us. (Colossians 1-27) Matthew 10:1 tells us that Jesus, who was the only begotten son of God, gave power to his disciples “against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease” Power was given to men, like us.

Jesus said, as recorded in Matthew 28:18: “All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and earth.” John 1:12a: “But to as many as received him (God) to them he gave power to become the sons of God.” “Now unto him who is able to do exceeding, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,…” (Ephesians 3:20)

The Bible records great and mighty works of God. We read about the parting of the waters, about how God supplied His people with manna daily all that time, and how their clothes never wore out. We don’t usually read about how the power of God was manifested in the every day life of the Israelites as they spent 40 years on the road to the promised land. A child might have fallen and injured his arm. A camel may have stepped on the sandal-clad foot of a father. A mother may have had a difficult childbirth. Relationships might have faltered, or temptations to sin might have arisen. Personal successes may have turned to failure. God’s power would be there, too, to heal, to sooth, to comfort and to ease the pain.

So today someone may have a flat tire that threatens to ruin his or her day. A child might get hurt on the school playground. Maybe you find yourself in an undesirable situation with danger threatening. A soldier or policeman might be put in harm’s way as a part of his responsibilities. There may be a flu “bug,” with a high fever in the family. Where is God and His power at these times? The same God and His same power is there to meet these needs as well as the big ones. Our God who can heal a cancer can also heal a common cold. We will see more of the power of God in our lives when we believe God’s Word.
We have not because we ask not, or we ask amiss. That power is in us as born-again children of God. There is no more power available. It is our responsibility to activate that power within us by learning to trust and believe God.

We will see signs, miracles and wonders as we walk with the power of God that is already in us.
