A YouTube Vocal Keeper from 2010—Jackie Evancho, the Little Girl with a Huge Voice

“If they have a dream, they should always go for it because that’s what happened to me and my dream came true.”

While I try to limit the amount of time I spend gazing at the large rectangle in my family room known as the TV, I do confess to being a fan of a few very popular shows. However, I have never caught an episode of America’s Got Talent.

Jackie EvanchoThat’s why I missed seeing a spectacular, moving and amazing performance of the beautiful classical song Pie Jesu (Merciful Jesus) by the incredibly gifted 10-year-old, Jackie Evancho, this past September.

Surprisingly, she didn’t win, but came in second. Again, I didn’t see the competition, but I have to wonder what could have topped this clear-as-crystal voice.

Winner or not, I’m sure little Jackie from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania has a bright future ahead of her, as Proverbs 18:16 says: “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.”

Judging from the short excerpt in the video regarding her parental and family support, they seem pretty grounded. At any rate, this song she chose to sing may just divulge a glimmer of her and her family’s faith.

A glance at Jackie’s bio on her website reveals that she began to sing operatically around 8, after seeing a presentation of the Phantom of the Opera. However, her parents didn’t realize the extent of her gifting until they attended her very first talent contest.

Jackie’s father, Mike, recalled, “At her first little talent competition, we invited my parents. She started to sing, my folks looked at each other like ‘What’s going on here?’ Plus with the crowd reaction, then we knew.”

Mike also notes that while the world has discovered a great talent this year in his little girl, she still has to do the normal 10-year-old things, like chores and homework.

Jackie’s musical interest spills beyond her otherworldly soprano voice; she also plays violin and piano.

Jackie says she has found what she wants to do in life, and has a message to her peers who are still deciding, “If they have a dream, they should always go for it because that’s what happened to me and my dream came true.”

Here are the lyrics for Pie Jesu, and their translation courtesy of LifeSiteNews.com:

“Pie Jesu” (Merciful Jesus)
“Qui tollis peccata mundi” (Who takes away the sins of the world)
“Dona eis requiem” (Grant them rest)
“Agnus Dei” (Lamb of God)
“Qui tollis peccata mundi” (Who takes away the sins of the world)
“Dona eis requiem” (Grant them rest)
“Sempiternam” (Everlasting)
