Behind Closed Doors (by Brian Kinnett)

The seasons are changing again, and that means soon spring will be upon us, and the landscape will change to bright vivid colors, hand painted by God Himself upon the earth.

But one thing that won’t change will be the struggles that we all have. I am reminded by our own troubles as we drive around, or walk through the neighborhoods, that behind those closed doors, many lives are falling apart. Some know Christ, others don’t and to them right now it doesn’t matter either way.

I wish we could reach them all, but the rooms behind those doors, are filled with broken dreams, marriages, and lives. Shattered by depression, infidelity, pornography, drugs, alcohol, abuse, debt, stress, anger, hatred and so on.

Most are to ashamed to reach out, others are to proud. Only a few will call out for help, and somehow we need to reach those who have locked themselves inside their own prisons. That is what it means to be a community, now I know that your not going to get people to open up, again pride and shame overtake 90% of us. But somehow we have to prayerfully break through those strongholds they are surrounding themselves with.

The Lord has given us ample information, and resources to reach those who are hurting. Even now many who read this today, are locked inside a prison and your crying to get out, but your cry is faint and weak. And it seems that no one is listening, but God is. If you’re his child, He is hearing you, and He is reaching His hands out to you, but you have to reach back, or just lay still and let Him rescue you.

His word says this 1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

Psalms 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Now I am not saying that Christ takes joy in your suffering, what I am trying to get across is this that in your suffering, remember that others have suffered the same things you are experiencing. And that they can help you, but they don’t know what is going on. We do not know the issues of the heart that are eating at our brothers and sisters, we can’t make one another talk and reach out.

God knows what is happening, and He wants us to reach out and ask for help, and to help one another. Believe me when I say that your suffering is but for a moment in time. And when God brings you through it, you will be able to see that God has bigger plans for what you came through. And you will no longer be the student, but the comforter God uses to reach others.

1st Peter 5:10-11 says this 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

That is a promise written in the blood of the lamb. I want to encourage you now, to reach out to those around you, don’t become a shut in.

Psalms 121:1 A Song of Ascents. I will lift up my eyes to the hills–From whence comes my help.

2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. 3- He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 – Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.

The Lord is our help, our promise, our security. If we can’t trust Christ in our earthly trials and tribulations, how can we say we trust Him with our salvation?

Now I know some of you will say , you don’t know what I am going through! Your right I don’t know, but God does, he sees through the closed doors, the mask of pride and shame and He is reaching out. His mercy is great, His love is great, and He has already made provision for you and I in our troubles, just trust Him and do as He says. There is grace and mercy waiting for you, on the other side if your suffering. Remember that the victory is ours in Christ. And even though we are pressed we are not crushed, for God will not allow that happen.

2Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4- who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5- For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 6- Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7- And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.

This past couple of months, I have seen divorce, anger, death, stress, and many trials in the lives of people I love, now I don’t have the perfect solution for their problem at hand, but I do have the perfect answer. That answer is this, there is peace and mercy in Jesus Christ, and even when we think that problems are over taking us they are not, for we are to set our eyes on heavenly things and do all things for the glory of God.

I have walked many roads, and taken many journeys in my life with the Lord. I know that He has never failed me, nor will He ever. I also know that the paths I have taken, have always been used to encourage or help another as God has helped me.

2Corinthians 4:8- We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9- persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed–10 – always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11- For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12- So then death is working in us, but life in you. 13- And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14- knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 16- Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17- For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18- while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Wherever you are in your journey, look around and see the Hands of God working in your life. Reach out to those around you, who God has put into your path reach out to them, if your hurting. Or reach out to your Pastor. If your not in trials now, look and listen to those around you. God has given us all the resources we need, we just need to stop, look and listen.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

In Christ
